The Minister for Education Says Ghana has an EXCELLENT educational
system.
Please can someone tell me if it’s the same Educational system I went
through?
Is it the same one that BECE’s (Basic education) pass rate is only 50%
even though 40% of its educational budget is funded through budget support from
Europe?
Is it the same one that Secondary science students graduate without
having practically interacted with half of the things they are taught in
theory?
Is it the same one that Tertiary students are marked up for
“BaBaRiSinG” lecturers’ notes and marked down for being innovative and
challenging their lecturers?
Is it the same one that teachers are neither paid nor brought abreast
with new, faster, more impactful and efficient ways of delivering education
other than chalk and blackboards?
Is it the same one that lumps all students at all levels and has no
prevision for “gifted” and “exceptionally talented children, who should be tapped very early in
life?
Is it the same one that students at all levels graduate from and
realise the focus have been on theory rather than problem solving and
challenging the status quo?
Is it the one that the general curriculum I studied was the same one my
father studied and my younger brother and which God forbids my children from
studying?
Is it the same one that his ministry does not have any strategy to
marry education with industry in order to make education relevant for Ghana’s
industrial economy?
IS IT HUH, MR MINISTER? IS IT HUH? PLEASE ANSWER ME, IS IT?
